Endowment and Temporarily Restricted Funds

Funds are listed in the order in which they were established.
These are non-scholarship funds.

Joel B. Langholtz Memorial Fund   (Established 1981) This fund was established by the PTO of Tamaques School in memory of Joel B. Langholtz, a Principal at Tamaques School.  Income from the fund is used for scholarships to persons nominated by the Westfield High School Guidance Department and approved by the Tamaques School PTO.

Ruth Gavin Quinn Memorial Fund   (Established 1987) Established by the late Mrs. Quinn’s husband, William A. Quinn, and aided by contributions from her friends, this fund makes grants to charitable, educational and cultural institutions serving the Westfield community with preference given to the Westfield Memorial Library.

Nancy S. Garrett Memorial Mobile Meals Fund   (Established 1987) This fund was established by the family and friends of Nancy S. Garrett, a founder of Mobile Meals of Westfield.  The income from the fund is paid quarterly to Mobile Meals of Westfield.

Robert A. Hemsath Memorial Fund   (Established 1989)  This fund was established in memory of Robert Hemsath by his friend, Mitchell E. Shivers. Income from the fund is used to make an annual contribution to the United Fund of Westfield in the name of Robert A. Hemsath.

The Frank and Helen Jackson Fund   (Established 1989) This fund was transferred to the Westfield Foundation from the Frank and Helen Jackson Foundation.  The transfer was made by Thomas, their son, and Jody Jackson.  Net income from the fund is devoted each year to charitable organizations previously supported by the Jackson Foundation.

Claire D. Brownell Memorial Garden Fund   (Established 1992)  A fund given by George R. Brownell in memory of his wife Claire.  Net income from the fund is given to the Rake and Hoe Garden Club of Westfield for the maintenance of a memorial wild flower garden in Westfield.

Carmen Angus Cancer Memorial Fund   (Established 1993)  This fund was established in memory of Carmen Angus by her husband and friends.  The net income and principal, as necessary, are used to organize and present educational programs primarily for Westfield residents in detection, care and prevention of breast cancer and to provide financial support to residents of Westfield who are victims of breast cancer, primarily for expenses incurred in advanced treatment.

Senus Commemorative Endowment Fund   (Established 1994)  A fund established by Eleanor H. and the late Leo J. Senus, who was a Westfield Foundation Trustee and the Foundation’s Treasurer for many years.  Net income is available for patriotic or celebratory events.

Rivett Memorial Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad Fund (Established 1998) A fund established to honor the efforts of the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad, one-half of the income from this fund will be awarded to the Rescue Squad annually, with the remaining income being added to principal.

Nancy M. McElroy Memorial Fund (Established 1998) A fund established in memory of Nancy M. McElroy, a long time resident of Westfield.  A graduate of Immaculata College in Washington, DC, Mrs. McElroy was a Member of the Auxilliary of the Children’s Specialized Hospital, a Trustee of Visiting Home Care, and a past President of the Colonial Westfield Questers.  Mrs. McElroy was a Director of Youth and Family Counseling Service from 1983-1989, and it’s President from 1984-1988.   All net income of this fund will be granted to the Youth and Family Counseling Service annually, with the remaining income being added to principal.

Helping Hands & Hearts Fund (Established 1999) A fund established by Mr. Joseph L. McElroy, a past trustee.  All net income in each year will be granted to the Helping Hands & Hearts program run by St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church, in Westfield.

St. Joseph’s Social Service Center Fund (Established 1999) A fund established by Mr. Joseph L. McElroy.  One-half of the net income in each year will be granted to the St. Joseph’s Social Service Center in Elizabeth, N.J., with the remaining income being added to principal.

Louise Bossert Memorial Fund (Established 1999) A Donor-Advised fund established by Ingeborg Bossert as executirix of the estate of Louise Bossert, her mother.

Capitola Dickerson Music Enhancement Fund (Established 2000).  Established by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bilman, this fund pays 90% of net income to the Westfield Day Care Center annually for music enhancement programs.

Caruana Family Fund  (Established 2000)  A Donor-Advised fund established by Sal and Darleen Caruana as the Caruana Family Fund.  Income from the fund is to be used to support the emergency health or financial needs of Westfield children in distress.

Salaine Cares Memorial Fund (Established 2009) A fund established in memory of Salaine Bonanne by her husband, Thomas Bonanne and her family and friends.  The fund will contribute to causes which were most meaningful to Salaine.

Golush Family Fund (Established 2009) A fund established by David M. Golush, a Westfield resident.  Net income from the fund will be used to benefit the Westfield United Fund, the Westfield Y, the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad and IMAGINE, Inc..

The Matthew C. Cahill Memorial Fund (Established 2010)  A fund established by the family and friends of Matthew Cahill, who died at the age of 28.  Matthew was a celebrated swimmer and tri-captain of the Westfield High School Boys Public A State Championship team.

The Irna Wagner and Lydia Hoffart Fund (Established 2011) A fund established thanks to a bequest from the Estate of Lydia Hoffart. 20% of the net income of the fund will be distributed to the Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside; 15% of the net income will be distributed to the Center for Hope Hospice; the balance of the net income is to be used by Foundation Trustees for grants to organizations serving senior citizens.  Grants are to be made in the name of Irna Wagner, Ms. Hoffart’s sister, who served as President of the county senior citizens organization.

The following funds are managed by the Westfield Foundation, for the benefit of the named non-profit organizations.  Although the non-profit organizations may consider these funds as their “endowment” funds, the funds are not part of the endowment of the Westfield Foundation.  Agencies may withdraw any or all of the income or principal of their funds at any time, subject to the approval of the Westfield Foundation Trustees.
